Israel’s Tactile Mobility said on Tuesday its software will be embedded into the German automaker BMW’s next-generation vehicles starting in 2021.
The collaboration will gear up with BMW vehicles with the ability to analyze the road surface attributes under their tires, allowing detection of road conditions.
Tactile Mobility, founded in 2012, develops software that uses a vehicle’s non-visual sensors, including wheel speed, wheel angle, RPM, and gear position to help smart and autonomous automobiles “feel” vehicle-road dynamics and road conditions.
In October , the company said it secured $9 million in funding from a group of investors that also involved Porsche.
The cooperation between BMW and Tactile Mobility started through the BMW Startup Garage, the venture client unit of the BMW Group.
Tactile Mobility is also working with multiple OEMs, road officials, and municipalities and is based in Haifa, Israel with a presence in Europe, the US, and Asia.
