United States and China have become the major source of demand for Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW AG’s new 5-Series and a revamped Audi A8. Deliveries of cars are therefore being boosted to cope with the sudden rush demand.
There are over 900,000 millionaires in China more than willing to flaunt their wealth. This information comes from Sascha Gommel, a Frankfurt based analyst with Commerz Bank AG. New models have been released in China by German carmakers to attract buyers and thereby resulting in high gains. Audi’s sales of the new A8 sedan uphold to increase upwards. BMW’s new 5 series, on the contrary is completely sold out.
Mercedes Benz is pinning high hopes on its very first vehicle, an extended E-class sedan to be introduced in the Chinese market for the first time. The vehicle is expected to and is being relied on to add to Mercedes Benz’s market share in Chinese automobile business. Mercedes, BMW and Audi are hiring more and more workers and cutting down on summer factory breaks in order to produce more and more to cope with the demand. This sudden rise in demand for luxury cars is attributed to quicker recovery than expected by the automobile experts and analysts.
In particular, Daimler has hired 1,800 workers on an irregular basis and also added Saturday shifts. This is primarily in order to increase production of the SLS gull-wing sports car, GLK sport-utility vehicle and E-class convertible at its German assembly plants. Audi too has added Extra shifts to increase production. BMW also has hired over 5,000 workers on an irregular basis. The company has also announced to give 1,060 Euros on average, which would be in the form of a one-time payment by BMW to all of its employees covered under a wage agreement.
