One of the most trusted automotive news channels available out there, the Auto Bild, has recently reported that the luxury German automaker, BMW, is prepping a surprise in its factory. The automaker is reportedly working on a super fast variant of the BMW i8 in order to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The vehicle is referred to with the codename M100. Since the vehicle is meant to celebrate the company’s centennial anniversary, only one hundred examples of the car will be built.
It is said that the super fast BMW i8 is going to be more agile and dynamic when compared to the standard variant of the car. However, it will be heavier than the regular i8 by 1,490 kg, weighing in at 1,600 kg in total. This is potentially due to new hardware sets that are more powerful, enabling the BMW i8 to spit out slightly more than 500 hp of total power output.
The increase in performance is likely to be achieved by placing a 204hp electric motor and a 286hp 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Combined together, this engine configuration promises a peak power output of 517 hp. The torque will also rise to 700 Nm, compared to 500 Nm on the regular BMW i8. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, the upcoming i8 from BMW will need no more than just 3.5 seconds whereas its top speed will be electronically limited to ‘just’ 250 km/h.
According to reports, the German company will start shipment of the super fast BMW i8 come September 2017. The car is most likely to bring either the i8CS or i8S moniker. One thing that is also quite interesting is that the model may as well receive the new OLED lighting technology from BMW. The asking price of the car is estimated to be 250,000 Euros at least.
