The “greenest” BMW at this time is the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Series. While the i8 also awaits the release on the market, the Bavarians told us that an energy-efficient i5 is also planned, but we have to wait a while for a concept. Until then, they gave us the i-FD design, from which the i5 might borrow some elements.
Imagined by the Spanish designer Feliciano Ruy-Diaz, the i-FD has the purpose of combining a sports saloon that is typical for BMW with an ecological car, both through technology and design. Because this is merely a design, there’s no information about the motorization.
As well as the i8, the i-FD also gets an entirely different design from every other BMW, but not necessarily in a bad way, though (not that other designs aren’t great). The designer got his inspiration from the look of a shark that inspires power, elegance and aggressiveness. The headlights and grille are also entirely new, and now look more modern. The sides come with usual BMW elements, like the rear door contour (Hofmeister Kick).
No one knows if the i-FD will one day become a production vehicle, or if it’s going to be the base design of some other concept. All we know so far is that it was unveiled around the time the plans for the i5 were given to the press.
