The German car manufacturer BMW did it again. In a nerve-racking race at the Nordschleife circuit, the No. 25 BMW M3 GT2 placed first in the 24-hour race. While Audi dominated the number of cars which qualified, and Porsche looked very determined to break history, BMW still topped all, finishing a total of 154 laps in the Nurburgring 24 hours.
The team behind the No. 25 BMW M3 GT2 included Jorg Muller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen, and Pedro Lamy. Apparently, the group managed to win the race despite some setbacks. Team BMW had to take care of a radiator change then night before, and settle some problems with the late-race gear box.
The team’s biggest competitor was probably the Porsche. The No. 1 Mantley sprinted from 7th place to 1st during the opening lap. This position was held by the Porsche team for a few hours, but it inevitable crashed as night fell.
Meanwhile, the Porsche GT3 Hybrid led the race until the 22nd hour. However, less than two hours before the finish of the race, the vehicle suffered from some engine problems. Porsche teammates Jorg Bergmeister, Richart Leitz, Marco Holzer and Martin
Ragginger just had to say goodbye to the possibility of winning the race.
Soon enough, the slower but apparently more reliable BMW took the lead in the weekend victory dominated by competitors Audi and Porsche. The No. 26 Schnitzer BMW led by Dirk Muller, Dirk Werner, Dirk Adorf and Andi Priaulx got into an accident during the first hour, but was able to recover from it in time to finish the race and place 7th. A total of 220,000 fans watched the Nurburgring race.
