The German Giants BMW, have partnered with Team USA to develop a two-man bobsled for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Though BMW’s expertise lies with cars and motorcycles, the company is using engineering know-how to help the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Federation design a world-class sled for the U.S. Bobsled Team. Team USA’s bobsled design is essentially 20-years old and is in need of a total revamp.
BMW is helping in revamping Team USA’s bobsled, using their own company’s Efficient Dynamics model, and so far the bobsled design has been improved with better dynamic chassis, slick aerodynamics and lightweight materials. Apparently Team USA’s four-man bobsled team has been extremely successful over the years – winning a gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games the country’s two-man team hasn’t won a gold medal since 1936.
“We’re extremely proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish as a team in the last 10 years, and know that we have the athletic potential to bring home more Olympic gold medals next year,” said Darrin Steele, chief executive officer of USBSF. “By bringing BMW in to provide its expertise, we see an opportunity to close an equipment gap between Team USA and countries that have historically led Olympic two-man bobsled competition.”
