BMW testing in-car ads based on your location and destination

by SpeedLux

BMW’s iDrive infotainment system may end up becoming a lot more annoying as the company has recently revealed its plans of developing a location-based advertising service.

Dubbed as the “virtual marketplace of the future,” the project aims to deliver location-based offers and services relevant to a specific route and final destination. Just to give you an example, BMW clarifies that the car could display real-time parking information such as availability and parking charges when approaching a destination.

We have to admit that it doesn’t sound that bad but BMW further details about the system that it could use your location to even tell you about nearby discounts at retailers that sell everything from clothes to coffee. Now this is what could be annoying especially when you really not in the mood to go for shopping or treats at a given point of time.

The system is currently being tested on a 7-Series prototype and BMW also states that the drivers can customize their preferences so that they will be able to see only those ads that would be of their interests.

We wish all the best to BMW as it is not really an easy task and at the same time we do not know how far it would be liked by the car lovers.
