Fisker Karma production to resume shortly, company will partner with VL Automotive – report

by SpeedLux

We recently reported that Fisker has been sold to China’s Wanxiang Group recently and so now new details are starting to emerge about the company’s future.

According to a report from Automotive News, the company will be relaunched and assistance of VL Automotive. The details of the arrangement are still not clear but Wanxiang supposedly praised the company for creating the “first true American luxury grand touring sedan in decades, the VL Destino.”

As you may recall, the Destino is based on the Fisker Karma but eschews the high-tech powertrain for GM sourced engines. The entry-level model is slated to come equipped with a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine with an output of 450 hp (335 kW), while the high-performance variant would be equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 mill delivering an output of 638 hp (476 kW).

Despite the focus on the Destino, Wanxiang will reportedly restart Karma production and develop future models with range-extending powertrains. If everything goes according to plan, Wanxiang will restart the production in Finland as well in the coming months. Once they use up their European inventory, they will reportedly begin building cars at VL Automotive’s plant in Michigan.
