Ford states Mustang to be the world’s top sports coupe

by SpeedLux

Ford, which improved the present Mustang with foreign sales in mind, says the pony car was the globally best selling sports coupe last year, based upon brand-new sales numbers.

About 19,000 out of an overall of 141,000 Mustangs were sold outside the United States last year. Some of the best demand remained in Europe, about 16,000 were sold. Regardless of high gas rates abroad, most clients are buying the high-performance, however more fuel thirsty, V-8 engine.

“U.S. customers have delighted in intriguing foreign sports cars for decades, so it was time for the Americans to return the favor with the global launch of the new Mustang,” states Erich Merkle, Ford sales expert.

Mustang is created in Flat Rock, Mich. An estimated of 110,000 of the Mustangs manufactured were coupes and 30,000 were convertibles.

The huge foreign sales represent a big change for Mustang, which never was thought of a major world car for Ford. Some of its functions just weren’t an excellent fit for world markets. Ford made the modifications in spite of the threat of alienating some of its loyal buyers. And now the reward is being available in sales abroad.
