The brand Ford and American police have been identical for quite a few years. There are literally dozens of police cars out there that are actually Ford branded vehicles, with the Ford Crown Victoria being one excellent example. Yet, the American automaker has now announced officially that it is planning to give the police a new vehicle model. Ford is calling the new vehicle the Police Interceptor Utility and it is designed as a 2016 model year.
The plan is that the 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility will be making a bow at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, which is slated for February 12, 2015. According to the American company, the car will offer a lot more high-tech features that will prove to be even better than their earlier versions.
Well, there is actually only one week left before the 2015 Chicago Auto Show eventually kicks off. Nevertheless, it seems that Ford can hardly wait to show us what the car will possibly look like – and believe me, it looks pretty cool. The company in question has officially launched two teaser images depicting the potent look of the upcoming police vehicle. Judging by these teaser images, it seems quite likely that the vehicle will be based on the company’s recent 2016 Explorer facelift model. On the front bumper of the vehicle, two C-shaped fog lamps are visible and they come in the red and blue colors, which are typical police colors. In addition to those fog lamps, even the exterior side mirrors come with similar colors as well for their lighting. Needless to say, there is also a red and blue lighting bar on the roof of the vehicle.
So far, Ford has yet to disclose what kind of technical specifications it will be offering on the new Police Interceptor Utility. However, some people believe that the car will most likely use the company’s 3.7L Ti-VCT VT FFV EcoBoost engine. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain, the car should be able to spit out at least 365 bhp of power output.
In addition to the 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, the American automaker is actually offering another police vehicle model as well. It is the Police Interceptor Sedan that is derived from the Ford Taurus.
