For those who remember correctly, early in December last year, the British automaker, McLaren, revealed its upcoming 650S Coupe Le Mans vehicle model. Now, more details in respect to the car have been made available by the company for its special edition 650S. In fact, the company has even released more official images as well for the eyes of its loyal fans and future buyers.
For those who may not be quite knowledgeable about it just yet, the special edition McLaren 650S Coupe is actually built to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans event back in the year 1995. Back then, the winner of the event was the company’s now-legendary F1, albeit the GTR variant. Since the new 650S from McLaren is a special car meant to celebrate a special event, the Woking-based company will build only 50 examples of it. The price will be pretty special, too, reaching the mark of GBP244,500. Unfortunately, there will be no mechanical differences whatsoever compared to the regular variant of the model, except all examples built will be a coupe.
The McLaren 650S Coupe Le Mans can be instantly recognized, thanks to the snorkel air intake available on the roof of the vehicle. This air intake style is meant to pay tribute to the legendary McLaren F1. The intake functions to channel airflow to the 3.8L V8 twin-turbo engine hiding beneath the engine hood. In addition to that, the front wings of the car have been designed such that they increase the downforce of the vehicle.
As it turns out, in order to develop this special edition vehicle model, the British automaker has teamed up with the MSO. Peter Stevens, designer of the legendary F1 from McLaren, has worked in close collaboration with MSO to make sure that the car will be as aerodynamic as possible. The upcoming McLaren 650S Coupe Le Mans will sit on 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) bespoke alloy wheels and the company claims it will start shipping the vehicle in the middle of 2015. For those who buy the vehicle, they will be eligible for an invitation for two people at the company’s 20th anniversary celebration party. The party is going to be held at a well-known track in France.
