The McLaren P1 was, without any questions, one of the fastest and most anticipated vehicles of the year back in 2014. Now, the British automaker is going even further with the P1 moniker as it officially unveils its plan of introducing a production version of the McLaren P1 GTR. According to the company, it will be bringing the car in question to the upcoming Geneva Motor Show event this year.
It is reported that the car will most likely enter the production phase later this year. In addition to that, the British automotive brand in question claims that before the car is finally built, it has undergone extreme testing, covering thousands of kilometers of road in Qatar, Bahrain and Europe. The British company claims that such tests have really helped the company a lot in pushing the performance of the street-legal McLaren P1 GTR to the boundaries. In addition to that, the tests have also made it possible for McLaren to enhance the cooling system and improve the aerodynamics factor of the P1 GTR. All in all, the car should perform better than its concept counterpart does. Speaking of the concept, it was previewed some time ago in summer 2014, during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event.
According to the British automaker, the upcoming production version of the McLaren P1 GTR will also come with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that has been optimized for track use. In addition to that, the car will also have a lot of weight reduction kits. Its power-to-weight ratio exceeds 700 PS for each ton. And, although McLaren is not yet giving out detailed performance specifications, the concept version of the P1 GTR was known to boast a 3.8L V8 engine combined with an electric motor. This engine promises to deliver 1,000 PS of power output.
