Rendered: The 2012 BMW 6-series

by Alex

The oldest BMW models in the market today are the 6 –series and the X3. These were first displayed in 2003 at the Frankfurt auto show and thereafter sustained its presence for seven years. In between the convertible version was launched in 2004 and then a facelift modification was carried out in 2007. The time to move ahead has now approached and a look of what the future would hold is shown here. The car is expected to draw from the Gran Coupe and should be launched by 2010 or 2011. The concept car has already been launched at the Beijing auto show which was held earlier this year.

BMW having learnt from its blunder of the portly 2001 7-series would make this car less bulky. There would be the air intakes which marks a BMW located below the headlights as also the LED running lights. The current version has a protruding posterior which is for sure going to be corrected with a more stylish look. There is certainly an aesthetic focus to this latest design. Whilst these attractive features might not help you in getting a cheap car insurance quite, they are likely to make this model extremely popular with those who are already fans of the BMW brand. A lean mean fighting machine ultimately is the aim for the next 6 series.

For engine the car would have the turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-six producing 300 hp of power. Also there would be models with the 400 hp twin turbo with capacity of 4.4 liter and named V8. The units for Europe market would get 3.0 liter turbo diesel delivering 320 hp. There would be the M6 for the USD market which would have a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 and give 580 hp. There is hope that the transmission would be manual. There was the automated SMG on the current models of V-10 M5 and M6. BMW had to add the six speed manual transmission system for the US market bending to customer demand. There is in reality a close resemblance of the series 5 with the series 6.

BMW would be producing both a coupe as well as a convertible version of the car and it is hoped the roof would be made of fabric. It is also expected that sedan version is also in the offing this time. It would be dubbed as a four door coupe and would be the competition for the Audi A7 and Mercedes Benz CLS. The styling concept is great and seems to tell us that BMW has indeed learnt from its past.
