During this week active citizens in Copenhagen have very likely seen the next-generation Volvo S60 prototype.
Usually automakers do all they can do stay away from crowded places when it comes to testing future cars, so why are Volvo engineers testing the new S60 in Copenhagen?
The reason for city testing is in the new safety technology that can’t be tested in some isolated area. This new technology can detect a pedestrian in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver doesn’t react in time, to avoid an accident. Let’s hope they don’t take the testing too far to see it in action with real people.
The new technology, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection, will be introduced together with the all-new Volvo S60 in early 2010. Sales are expected to start in mid-2010.
