Volkswagen on Thursday stated it will offer trade-in incentives and a bonus for scrapping older diesel automobiles in Germany, in a move to stave off driving restrictions in polluted cities.
The automaker will offer an incentive for consumers who agree to scrap diesel vehicles geared up with older euro 1 to euro 4 engines, the automaker said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her coalition partners agreed previously this month on plans to curb pollution from diesel vehicles by asking automakers to offer owners trade-in incentives and hardware repairs.
