Volvo and Polestar is set to officially unveil the C30 Performance Concept this weekend at the Gothenburg Motor Show. The two companies have had a long history together with the latter using the Volvo cars to win race championships.
The C30 Performance Concept is a project which basically started with the idea of race car designers and engineers creating a Volvo without having to worry about any race regulatory bodies. Although we heard that Volvo does not have plans of producing the concept prototype, the C30 Performance Concept is one wicked Volvo that will be street legal.
A base Volvo C30 has an output of 227 horsepower coming from its 5-cylinder turbocharged 2.5L engine while the Polestar pimped car gets a whopping 405 horsepower. The boost in performance is attributed to the larger turbo, custom internal, and massive intercooler. Polestar also threw in a unique set of camshaft and connecting rods just for the project.
The Haldex system for the all wheel drive comes as standard but mechanical differentials were configured to inject in some control to the more powerful car. The C30 concept prototype of Polestar also gets a custom steering rack with quick ration and suspension by Ohlins. You do not have to worry about slowing down or stopping as they install 6-piston caliper for the front ad 4-piston for the rear Brembo brakes.
Polestar showcases their familiarity with the aerodynamics and potential of the Volvo with this C30 project. The close ties between the two companies have awarded the Polestar to take on engine optimization for Volvo on its standard range.
Polestar has also created racing champions from other Volvo cars like the S60, S40, and the 850. Back in 2009, the tuning company also won the Swedish Touring Car Championship using a built from scratch C30.
Volvo and Polestar will be entering the STCC as partners for 15 consecutive seasons. They are the reigning champions and it seems they are all prepped up since they have time to put a spotlight on this partnership with the Polestar C30 Performance Concept.
Too bad the car will not be in production but it is nice to see a Swedish touring car with a street legal version.
