There have been reports that the Volvo S90 flagship model is well underway. As a matter of fact, the Swedish automaker has even made an official announcement, hinting that the model in question will take the competition to the likes of the Jaguar XF, Audi A6 and the BMW 5-Series. Well, that is quite a high hope the company has. But then again, perhaps it is not too much to ask for, especially when we take into account the success that the Volvo XC90 model has achieved so far.
As you can tell, the S90 will be the successor to the Swedish marquee’s S80 model, a model that has been out for far too long, to be honest. As such, the S90 has a potentially heavy task upon its shoulder to carry out. As a matter of fact, according to Lex Kerssemakers, the vice president of product strategy in charge at Volvo, with the upcoming S90 model, the Swedish company is expecting to attract buyers who will usually spend their hard earned cash on the luxury vehicles from Germany or the Great Britain, including the Jaguar XF, the Audi A6 and the 5-Series from the Bavarian marquee, BMW. A wagon variant of the Volvo S90 will also be spawned not long after the sedan variant is released to the market. The sedan is expected to make its debut when this year is approaching to its end.
If you think that Volvo is exaggerating by expecting to rival the likes of the luxury vehicles mentioned above, perhaps you may need to think again. After all, as Kerssemakers claims, the car has seemingly everything that customers may have ever wanted. First off, it is highly distinctive when compared to the company’s XC90. Then, the car also comes with every single asset that is needed to rival the big boys in the industry. Kerssemakers believes that the Volvo S90 flagship sedan will be very appealing in both the US and Chinese markets as the buyers in these markets still favor big size sedans very much whereas the same can’t be said as of other markets out there.
Customers who spend their cash on the upcoming S90 flagship sedan from Volvo will be treated to a 2.0L T8 engine with twin turbochargers that collaborates with an electric motor. This powertrain gives the vehicle 400 PS of power output and 640 Nm of torque.
