The American division of the South Korean automaker, Hyundai Motors, has made an announcement that it will equip the Genesis model with twin turbochargers pretty soon. The twin turbochargers will be accompanying a V6 engine, it is said.
This was unveiled during the recent interview at this year’s New York Auto Show event, which is still welcoming the public so far. At the interview, Dave Zuchowski, CEO Hyundai Motor America, hinted that the South Korean mid-size sedan is going to benefit from a V6 twin-turbo engine sometime around 2017 or a year after that. As for the figures, they are expected to be similar to those generated by a 5.0L V8 engine. The latter should produce no less than 420 bhp of power and 519 Nm of torque. In addition to that, Zuchowski also claims that the weight of the engine should be significantly lower than that of the Tau V8 engine. The fuel consumption will be more efficient as well, about 15/23/18 when a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) drivetrain is used.
Zuchowski also reveals that the South Korean automotive marquee is also going to offer even more engines with turbochargers that have a light weight and small displacement capacity. Speaking of which, perhaps it is wise to take the 2016 model year Tucson from Hyundai as an example. In the US, the car comes with a 1.6L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. This engine gives the car a total power output of 175 bhp and a total torque of 264 Nm.
