2015 Elemental RP1 – new lightweight track car teased

by Max Richardson

Elemental Cars is a new British based automaker that is working on a new British designed and built, high- performance, road legal track car, the RP1.

The RP1 has been in development for the last 5 years. This open top, 2-seater mid-engined sports car is most likely the lightest car in the world when it arrives with a projected weight under 1000 lbs (450 kg).

All thanks to a custom-designed, lightweight, carbon-composite structural tub that features an innovative, formula one style “feet-up” driving position.

The bodyshell and interior also feature extensive use of carbon composites in their construction.

The RP1 is powered by a mid-mounted, race-tuned 2liter Ford Ecoboost engine with 280 horsepower mated to a 6-speed sequential racing gearbox, resulting in a 500 hp/ton power to weight ratio.

The RP1 will debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
