BMW 1-series M: GTS or CSL?

by Adrian Hayden

Jon Sibal, famous car designer, said that BMW will be offering several models to choose from on the new 1-series M. He said that the German car-maker is thinking of making a special edition 1M Coupe. BMW will most likely be offering a limited edition variant just like they did with the classics E36 LTW, E46 CSL and the more recent E92 GTS. Also, Sibal said that BMW is also thinking of creating a Performance Program for the 1M Coupe. It seems that the car-maker has “ideas and the creativity to expand” but the only thing that matters now is the enthusiasm with which the car will be welcomed.

The new 1M Coupe will arrive in just a few days but BMW has announced that it will only produce this model until the spring of 2012. BMW initially wanted to produce only  2,700 but the company got more demands than expected, therefor they will try to cope with them all. Sibal said that he is not sure that BMW will launch a special edition of the 1M Coupe and that it is most likely that the German manufacturer will hold on to this technology until the next generation 1M.

The 1M Coupe will feature a 250 kW (340 PS / 335 bhp) twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine. According to BMW, the U.S model has 332 kW (451 PS / 445 bhp).
