Germany’s Transport Ministry is going to invest 250 million euros ($266.66 million) by 2019 in making hydrogen-fueled cars appropriate for mass production, German newspaper Die Welt stated on Wednesday, without mentioning its sources.

A few of the cash will be used for research and development with the goal of making such automobiles competitive and some of it will be used to make facilities such as fuelling stations, the report included.

It noted the German government had agreed on a support program for fuel-cell vehicles that would run up until 2026.

“With electromobility and automated and connected driving, the most significant mobility transformation since the invention of of the car is ahead of us,” Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt informed the paper.
