Volkswagen plans to supply over 400,000 brand-new energy vehicles for the Chinese market by 2020 to resolve its environmental protection requirements, a leading official stated.

The number will boost to 1.5 million by 2025, Jochem Heizmann, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, stated according to Xinhua news agency.

The automaker revealed previously that it would present 15 models of brand-new energy cars in China in the next 3 or 4 years, to deal with the environmental protection requirements of the Chinese market, along with 10 models globally in the next decades.

New energy automobile sales of Volkswagen are anticipated to reach 2 million to 3 million in 2025, 20 to 25 percent of its overall sales.

Volkswagen Group China and its 2 joint ventures provided 3.98 million vehicles to the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong in 2016, rise of 12.2 percent year on year.
