Two people were hit and killed as they stood beside a stopped pickup truck on Highway 417 close to Ottawa‘s western border on early Monday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the crash took place just before 1 a.m.
The pickup truck and the trailer it was hauling were stopped in a traffic lane after it was struck by the driver of a transport truck.
The victims, including a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are working to notify the family and friends of the victims.
Highway 417 was shut eastbound for some hours. It was reopened by Monday.
