Infiniti released a sprint race video between the 2012 Porsche Panamera Hybrid, and their own 2012 M Hybrid. According to their test, the M Hybrid is the fastest accelerating full-hybrid vehicle on the planet – but I wouldn’t jump to rush conclusions.
Both vehicles are some of the best full hybrids available. The Porsche comes with a 333 horsepower V-6 gasoline coupled with a 47 horsepower electric engine, for a total of 380 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque. Infiniti’s Hybrid is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 293 horsepower, paired with a 67 horsepower electric engine, that sum up to 360 horsepower – so less powerful than the Porsche.
Both vehicles come with neat state-of-the-art technology. Although the Porsche does seem a little more advanced in this area, we can call it a tie without fearing inequality. The Panamera also has a better fuel economy (35 mpg vs. 30 mpg). In the price department, the Porsche is nearly twice as expensive.
I find it somehow hard to believe the Infiniti gets better performance than the Porsche. Now, I’m not questioning their test, but I would rather believe the results of an objective experiment.
To draw a conclusion: while the 2012 Porsche Panamera Hybrid does sound a little bit better, is it really worth all of the extra $50,000? Additionally, if this video is true, isn’t the Infiniti actually better? That’s up for you to decide.
