That Mercedes-Benz is up to developing an all new sports car is common knowledge by now. Also known is that the new sports car will be smaller than the SLS AMG that it has launched recently and aims to take the battle right up to Audi R8.
However, what was not known till now is that the new sports car will be a hybrid car and will borrow some of the technology that has found application in the SLS AMG eDrive, which is the electric version of the SLS AMG and is slated to hit markets soon.
The SLS AMG eDrive will feature four electric motors with a combined power output of 392 kW or 525 hp while max torque output is an impressive 880 Nm. The car is expected to have range of 180km or 112 miles before requiring a recharge.
Chances are that the new sub-SLS hybrid sports car will come equipped with two electric motors coupled to a smaller V6 engine, which should be enough to match even the high performance sports cars.
