German automaker Daimler could deal with more recalls associated with manipulated diesel engines in some of its compact car models, weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday, without mentioning sources.
Germany’s transportation regulator KBA is presently investigating suspicious software utilized in some diesel engines which Daimler purchased from another automaker, the report said, adding that “thousands” of cars could be impacted.
The automaker refused to comment on the report but stated it had previously made clear that, because of the emissions cheating scandal, it could not rule out the possibility of additional KBA recall orders.
Daimler was fined by the German prosecutors in September for almost $1 billion for using illegal diesel manipulation techniques.
