Right from the start Audi R8 supercar has been a big success story for the brand and one of the meanest models from Audi, but now has gathered some dust on it, after being unveiled at Paris Auto Show five years ago. In order to revive this relatively old model, the company plans to release a facelift version of the R8 sometime next year. The new R8 will get a number of subtle styling tweaks, more powerful V8 and V10 engines, as well as a new S tronic transmission.
The updated Audi R8 will launch sometime next year with more powerful engines, this according to Car Magazine. Sources suggest the 4.2-liter V8 will produce 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) while the 5.2-liter V10 gets uprated to 533 hp (397 kW / 540 PS). Beside this, more importantly, there are rumors of a seven-speed S-tronic transmission which would likely replace the current R-tronic.
Even if the R8 will be mildly facelifted, we think it’ll be a very subtle model year change to the physical design of the car. The 2012 model’s styling changesis expected to include minor exterior modifications, such as revised headlights, LED tail lights and new bumpers.
Some rumors say that there is no further facelift planned for the Lambo Gallardo, the R8’s cousin. More special editions will be forthcoming, but Lambo fans will have to wait a further three years for the successor to the Gallardo.
