VL Automotive might have missed out on buying Fisker but that hasn’t stopped the company from gearing up to produce the Karma-based Destino.
In an interview to an auto magazine, Bob Lutz said that the company has acquired 25 Karmas and is on track to start delivering the cars in the mid of next year. However he revealed that it’s going to take some time and not happening immediately. He further states that he does not want a rough car that would be hard to drive with a bad transmission and high noise levels. At close to an amount of $200,000, these things are going to have to be silky and buttery to drive.
Lutz went on to say that VL Automotive will return to the North American International Auto Show with the Destino and another model with a different body style. As previously reported, the Destino will abstain from the Karma’s plug-in hybrid powertrain for GM-sourced V8 engines. The entry-level model will come equipped with a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine with output of 450 hp (335 kW) while the range-topping variant will come fitted with a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 engine rated at 638 hp (476 kW) and 604 lb-ft (819 Nm) of torque.
