A spokesman at SsangYong has told WardsAuto that the company plans on entering the U.S. market in the coming years.
Korean carmaker is eying an entry soon in United States on their quest to achieve annual sales target of 300,000 units by 2016 and at this moment the company is working on a product portfolio which will probably contain the facelifted Korando crossover. This model will likely be sold under a different company name since “SsangYong” isn’t really a desirable moniker.
Another model that could make it to the US markets is the SLV compact crossover which will be introduced sometime next year.
With Kia and Hyundai already entering the US territory recently, it’s hard to say whether a third Korean car manufacturer will be able to manage and survive an already very competitive automotive market, especially taking into consideration SsangYong doesn’t have a dealer network in the states as of now.
