Based on some recent reports from certain media, the French automaker, Renault, is currently preparing the Renault 5 in its pipeline. It is believed that this new model will sit alongside the company’s Clio model. As a matter of fact, the two will even share similar segment, which is, the supermini segment. However, in spite of that, the 5 from Renault may actually end up being very different than the Clio. Chances are, it will have its chassis based on the Renault Value Up concept instead.
Speaking of this upcoming vehicle, the French automaker in question claims that the car will be cost effective. Its body will have a rather quirky design paired with some short overhangs. Somehow, it has the atmosphere of the original model, only this time it has been treated with some modern twists.
The next interesting factor here about the upcoming Renault 5 is that it will not be much more expensive than the Renault Clio. In fact, the plan is that the car will be slotted into the company’s A-entry segment, a segment filled with vehicles with low performance engines. According to the French automotive brand, this will make it possible for the company to spend more money and focus on what kind of features to offer inside the car cabin. It is believed, however, that the Renault 5 will have not one but two LCD screens measuring 7 inches diagonally. One of these LCD screens will be used in favor of the conventional instrument cluster while another one will be installed at the left side of the steering wheel.
Under its hood, the Renault 5 will come with a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine. Or, for an alternative, customers will also be able to choose a plug-in hybrid engine. The latter is the kind of engine that keeps on getting more and more popular recently.
