Ford is closing its Mustang factory in Michigan for a week after the renowned sports car suffered a 32 percent sales decrease in the United States last month and was outsold by the Chevrolet Camaro for the very first time in nearly 2 years.
The second-largest U.S. car manufacturer idled the factory located in Flat Rock, south of Detroit, to match production capacity with need, Kelli Felker, a company spokesperson, said in an e-mailed declaration. The plant, which utilizes 3,702 workers and makes Mustangs and Lincoln Continentals, will restart production October 17, Felker stated. Under the car manufacturer’s labor contract, workers will be paid during the shutdown.
