A production ready car based on the concept of the Z4 hardtop roadster model from AC Schnitzer is there to be seen at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is a reaction from the maker due to the new ‘i’ sub-brand cars that BMW have decided to make in response to the demand from its eco-conscious followers and green lovers.
AC Schnitzer have adapted a new motto – “Efficient Performance”, to which the car they have put up at the Geneva Motor Show conforms to. The car is characterized by its extremely low CO2 emission levels with the diesel engine that they have used. The cat therefore is an eco-friendly one indeed and named the 99d.
The engine that they have used is a 2.0 liter four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which is a BMW make with its 320d efficient Dynamics technology. They have also applied some upgrades to the engine to get 190 hp and 420 Nm from the original 163 HP, 380 Nm power train.
Acceleration factor of the 99d is 6.9 seconds for the 0 to 100 kmph or 62 mph sprint with top speed of the car being 235 kmph or 146 mph. Fuel consumption reading of the car is 61.9 mpg US or 3.8 liter / 100 km. CO2 emissions of the car is 99.18 gm/km, which is indeed quite low.
Weight of the car has been reduced to 230 kg or 507 pounds which helps in the car achieving such marvelous performance figures.
A press brief from the company states, “With the AC Schnitzer 99d, we’ve succeeded in building the previously inconceivable: an up-rated performance vehicle whose CO2 emissions have been reduced to 99 g/km and which, despite its sustainability, offers pure driving pleasure. That’s Efficient Performance by AC Schnitze.”
Price of the 99d is €149,000 which at current exchange rates comes to US$205,500. These are the only details that the tuning firm has revealed about the car and there is surely more than one would get to see.
