There were reports very recently (just last week) that hinted of Aston Martin’s decision to axe the Cygnet, and now we have come to know that the news has been officially declared.
One of the company’s sources told a car magazine that the Cygnet has been removed from the lineup and that Aston Martin will not launch a city car or a supermini in the future. Instead, the company plans to focus on its lineup of sportscar which in some years from now is expected to get AMG engines as a result of a confirmed technical partnership that has taken place recently between the two parties.
Truly speaking, the Cygnet was far from being a true Aston Martin since fundamentally it was a premium version of the Toyota iQ built by the British marque to cut down on average CO2 emissions across its range. It went on sale in 2011 and was never really a hit among the car lovers and its not very surprising as it came with a hefty price of 30,995 GBP for a city car powered by a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that generated an output of just 97 hp (72 kW).
