A few minutes ago Audi published on their official web site a press release that say that the engineers from Audi have developed innovative solutions to many engineering fields and they achieve a surprisingly strong performance with minimum consumption.
According to the manufacturer, the high-end four-cylinder, which draws its strength from 1 798 cm3, roughly half a bullish 320 Nm of torque to the crankshaft, they are willing 1400-3700 1/min constant. At 3,800 rpm it already developed its full capacity of 125 kW (170 hp). Also, the 1.8 TFSI accelerates the Audi A5 Coupe with manual transmission in 7.9 seconds from zero to 100 km / h and continued up to 230 km / h top speed. On average, however, he comes out to 100 km with only 5.7 liters of fuel – a CO2 emissions of 134 grams per km and a superior record in the segment. If we campare it with the previous engine with 118 kW (160 hp), it’s clear that the consumption fell by as much as 21 percent.
Also, the new technology, in addition to the FSI direct fuel injection uses an indirect injection, the 1.8 TFSI – it injects the fuel at the end of the suction tube into the area of the tumble flaps, where he intensively swirled with the air. This reduces fuel consumption and reduces particle emissions to the extent that the four-cylinder is already the limit of the future Euro 6 standard, the only mandatory in 2015 is making.
Another important aspect is the fully electronic coolant system. Two fast-acting rotary vane, and summarized in a module of an electric motor driven by a worm gear, regulate the flow of the coolant. One of their main objectives is the engine oil after a cold start as quickly as possible to operating temperature.
The bottom line reduces the thermal management of the 1.8 TFSI, the emissions per 100 km to about 2.5 g of CO2. Also the weight of the engine has dropped from 135 to 131.5 kg.
Stay tuned for new details.
