For those who are fond of watching James Bond or Mission Impossible movies, it seems that they can now actually see real-life application of the technologies usually seen in the movies. Although things like a submersible car may sound impossible to some, it has actually become reality today. This is just what the HP Sport Sub 2 is. Developed by the U-Boat Worx, this is a sports car that begs to be driven under the water.
Well, the design may not look quite like a conventional car but it still looks cool all the same. It is attractive and more importantly, perfectly functional and safe. Designed using acrylic-steel pressure hull, this submersible vehicle in particular has a dimension of 285 cm (length) x 235 cm (width) x 136 cm (height). However, the vehicle seems to be pretty heavy, weighing in at no less than 2.2 tons. Yet, despite its heavy weight, this latest creation that comes from the U-Boat Worx is actually capable of diving as far as 100 meter deep under the ocean. Capable of accommodating one driver and one passenger, the HP Sport Sub 2 will have no problems at all whatsoever if it has to stay for as long as six hours underwater. When submerged, it can reach the speed of 2 knots, equivalent to approximately 3.7 km/h and when it comes to the surface, the vehicle can go as fast as 3 knots, equivalent to around 5.6 km/h. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly slow speed of the vehicle as that is only for the base model.
One possible drawback regarding this particular submersible vehicle is perhaps its fantastic price tag. The Netherlands-based company behind the development of the vehicle is asking for $1.26 million from those keen on taking this vehicle home with them. Well, that is some serious cash but then again, considering that U-Boat Worx is also in charge of the submersible vehicle used by Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, perhaps the price is well-deserved.
