The British automaker, Bentley, has made an official announcement that it plans to build a new research and development division. This new R&D division will be based in Crewe and it will become the company’s largest development site ever in the history of the British company. It is reported that Bentley will invest no less than £40 million for the establishment of this new division. It will open up approximately 300 job vacancies as well, in the departments of project management, marketing and sales, quality, manufacturing and engineering.
During the announcement of this plan, George Osborne, who was visiting Bentley, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, welcomed the news. Osborne is the British Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Bentley’s new R&D building in Crewe will cover an area measuring 45,000 square meters in width and it will comprise a number of interesting facilities. There, customers will be able to find the company’s styling studio, technical workshop and also offices. The new site will be home to 1,300 Bentley engineers and will help the automaker complete the development of its upcoming ultra-luxury SUV model by the year 2016.
Speaking of the new R&D department, Osborne claims that it will create new job vacancies not only at the company itself, but also all over the Great Britain through the company’s chains of suppliers. On the other hand, Wolfgang Durheimer, CEO and Chairman Bentley Motors, believes that the new Crewe-based site will help the automaker in question pursue its commitment to produce vehicles that cover all these criteria; quality, performance, engineering excellence and luxury.
Last but not least, the British automaker is currently handling other projects as well, such as, paint shop, extended engine production plant, new showroom and a new training facility for the apprentices in the company. The new site will start its development next year.
