BlackBerry has new software for running computer systems on vehicles

BlackBerry Ltd stated on Wednesday it has established new software for running complicated computer systems on cars, providing the once dominant smartphone maker an upper hand in a growing sector of the technology market.

The company refused to name any automakers who prepare to use the technology, however senior BlackBerry executive John Wall stated that several vehicle companies have actually started integrating it into onboard computer systems of vehicles that are presently in development.

BlackBerry promoted the product, the QNX Hypervisor 2.0, as a method to make vehicles more safe from hacking, stating it can isolate multiple systems to operate on a single piece of silicon, enabling them to separate functions important to safety from systems that are exposed to cordless networks.

“Think of a home, and a robber entering into a space. So even if the robber does enter that room, the door is locked, he can’t get out of that room. As well as if he can enter the corridor, the other spaces are locked,” Wall, the head of BlackBerry’s QNX department stated in a teleconference with reporters.

QNX has a affirmed position in the market for internet-connected car infotainment systems, and is planning to increase sales by expanding into more of the automobile.

The automobile market is one of the fastest-growing segments of the technology market, as automakers race to include more autonomous features and eventually look develop self-driving cars.
