BMW Recalling its 1-Series Models in the States Over Fire Danger

by Alex

The latest car manufacturer to be hit be the recall bug is BMW that announced it is calling back 38,000 units of its 1-series model. All the models had been manufactured between December 1, 2007 to May 27, 2010. They were all sold in the US as 2008MY – 2011 MY. The reason that BMW cited for the recall is the possibility of fire due to some anomaly with the front seat safety belt retractors.

“In a crash of sufficient severity, deployment of the front pre-tensioner and load-limiter occurs,” BMW has said in its statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “In rare circumstances, it is possible that the insulation around the pre-tensioner could ignite.”

There is however no notification issued by the maker regarding the recall of the car and nor have they announced any solution to the problem. This was brought to public notice by NHSTA.

Confirmation is also awaited regarding BMW stopping production of further 2011 1-Series in the US until the issue has been resolved.

BMW can be directly contacted at 1-800-525-7417 for any further clarification or information
