BMW said on Thursday its factories in China prepare to reach carbon emissions neutrality by the end of 2021, while its total carbon emissions in its Chinese production chain will decline 80% by 2030.
The automaker entered China in 2003 through a joint venture with a Chinese company Brilliance China Automotive Holdings which at the time was a leading automotive and automotive component manufacturer in China.
BMW started its operations as BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd.
The automaker is making vehicles with Brilliance China Automotive in the northeastern city of Shenyang. It is intending for a quarter of its sales in China to be battery electric vehicles by 2025.
BMW has earlier said that by 2030 the average life cycle emissions of its automobiles will be cut by more than a third compared to vehicles made in 2019.
