BMW sold almost as many cars in the third quarter as it did in the same period a year ago, following the ongoing war in Ukraine and supply shortages led to a decline in deliveries in the first half of 2022, said the German automaker on Monday.
Group sales dropped 0.9% compared with the same quarter of 2021, to 587,795 vehicles. That’s a smaller decline than seen in earlier quarters, when Covid lockdowns in China and the lack of chips had made things difficult for the automaker.
Business in China was strong, sales showed an increase of 5.7% there, as well as in the United States, which saw a boost of 3.8%. Europe, on the other hand, saw an 11.1% decline in the third quarter.
For the first nine months of 2022, the automaker saw a year-on-year decline of 9.5% for Group sales to 1.75 million vehicles.
The automaker confirmed its full-year forecast for 2022 of achieving sales levels just below the previous year.
