Not so long ago, we told you that the French automaker, Bugatti, was planning to develop the successor to the Veyron, the Chiron. However, it seems that those who are expecting to see the car in action will have to be disappointed a bit. New reports have emerged on the car and things do not look good with these new reports. It is said that the Chiron has been heavily criticized for the doors. Yes, you heard that right, the car is delayed because of such a simple thing, the door, mind you! In fact, this has left the automaker with no option but to send its engineers to the drawing board once again.
The issue with the doors of the Veyron’s successor is that their sills are just too wide whereas their opening angle is too narrow. In other words, the doors are not quite proportional. This issue has been brought up by Martin Winterkom and Ferdinand Piech, both of whom are from the Volkswagen Group. Unfortunately, in order to fix the doors, Bugatti may need to take several extra months before it can once again show the Chiron to the public.
Apart from the doors, however, nothing else seems to be going wrong with the car. If you remember correctly, the Chiron will take advantage of the engine used by its older brother, the 8.0L W16 engine with four turbochargers at work. However, this time, the engine has been tweaked such that it can actually send out 1,500 hp of power output at most. There are also words on that the upcoming vehicle model will utilize the new electric turbo system in place of the conventional turbochargers. This should result in better torque at low end. The electric motor is probably going to be attached onto the vehicle’s gearbox housing, right by the side of its lithium-ion battery pack.
Last but not least, it is said that the Bugatti Chiron will weigh in at just less than 1,840 kg, which makes the car even lighter than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
