The luxury automaker from the US, Cadillac, has finally confirmed that it is going to take the veil off its upcoming CT6 model come March 31, 2015. The company also discloses more details in respect to the kind of structure that the car will be taking advantage of.
Well, to begin with, the upcoming flagship model of the vehicle is going to count on a multi-material body structure. Now, the luxury US automaker has eventually confirmed that the car is going to have 64% of its body structure made of the aluminum material. Thanks to the use of this material, the car has lost up to 90 kg of its total body weight, compared to the predecessor which utilizes steel for its entire body panel. While the aluminum material is chosen for the entire body panel of the next generation Cadillac CT6, the company uses 13 other types of materials for the sake of a quieter interior, better driving dynamics and also better fuel consumption.
The underbody of the vehicle also comes with steel close-out panels on its lower part, so as to achieve a cabin that may well prove to be as quiet as the vault of a bank. The great thing is that it does not have any sound deadening materials, unlike in the case of other vehicles. After all, most sound deadening materials will increase the weight of the vehicle. In addition, the company has also made good use of highly strong steel material at places like the impact bar at the rear end of the vehicle and at its B-pillars.
Under the hood, Johan de Nysschen, CEO Cadillac, points out that the car will have either a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, a 3.6L V6 twin-turbo engine or a 3.6L V8 twin-turbo engine. Also, the driver of this vehicle will be gifted with a digital rearview mirror that displays images on a TFT LCD screen with a total resolution of 1,280 x 240 pixels. The images displayed by the digital rearview mirror come from a high definition camera equipped with a water-shedding hydrophobic coating. This will ensure clear images on the digital rearview mirror even when the weather outside is adverse. The company even goes as far as to claim that this digital rearview mirror will boost the driver’s field of vision by about 300% and that there will be no glare.
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 will reportedly enter the production phase somewhere around the end of this year and it will be manufactured at GM’s assembly plant in Detroit-Hamtramck.
