The shift to electrical vehicles will cost jobs at German automobile provider Continental, its CEO Elmar Degenhart informed a paper, however he stated a number of those jobs would be balanced out by new positions associated with electro-mobility.
“Due to the low added worth, production jobs will be lost,” German weekly paper Welt am Sonntag quoted Elmar Degenhart as telling.
He stated it was premature to tell whether the variety of jobs that would be lost would be larger of smaller compared to the variety of new positions produced.
“There’s enough time to develop the process such that the blow is softened and significant discomfort can be prevented,” he stated.
About 30,000 of 218,000 jobs at Continental depend on combustion engines, the paper stated.
Continental AG is a German automotive manufacturing company known for tyres, brake systems, interior electronics, automotive safety, powertrain and chassis components, tachographs, and other components for the automotive and transportation industries.
Continental stated last month it would boost costs on electric-car parts in coming years however anticipates to prevent any significant effect on its revenues through extra sales from new R&D tasks.
