There is nothing as exciting as decorating, repairing and improving your home by yourself rather paying an expert to do it. For instance, imagine building your own carports without any help from a professional builder. Carport is a covered structure used to offer limited protection to vehicles and cars. The structure can be designed to stand on its own or attached to a wall. Even though, carports offer less protection when compared to garages, they give room for ventilation.

Why Do You Need a Carport?

Carports are economical and improvised methods of protecting your car from bad weather and excessive sun light. They protect your vehicle from harmful summer rays, winter snow, sleet or rain. A carport usually has a roof and sometimes side covers. Although, it is not usually enclosed. It can be helpful for people who live alone. There are different types of carports including a mobile carport, which serves the same purpose as a standard carport. The mobile carport can be moved or removed.  You can build a carport in your house. Imagine parking closer to front door rather than parking on the street. When you have a carport in your house, you can park closer to home. This will help keep your vehicle safe from intruders or burglars. They may be less inclined to enter a carport close to the home.
Similarly, you can use a carport as a home to boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles and other methods of transportation if you don’t have room in your garage.

How Do You Make a Carport by Yourself?

If you have carport plans and you have been wondering how you can build one without spending much or hiring someone to help you. Here are DIY ideas for building your carports.
The tools and materials you will need include hammer, drill, circular saw, post hole digger, concrete mix, posts, beams, plywood from Cut My Plastic, metal fingers, nails, shingles, paint. It is quite a simple process and you will enjoy building your carport.
Preparing the ground
This involves getting the necessary building permits, purchasing the needed materials, measuring the ground, levelling the ground and pouring a ground cover if necessary. You can build your car ports from wood or metals depending on the style you want and nature of your environment. At this stage, you will need to make sure that you satisfy any legal requirement. Purchase all the necessary materials needed.

Building of poles
This aspect entails the digging of holes for the lists, setting the lists, fastening the sides together. Here, you dig the holes and fix in the list. This must be strong enough to hold the poles. You must also make sure that you fasten the sides tightly, so as to avoid any collapse.

Making the roof
This part includes fastening of the rafters to the poles at the side, tightening the plywood roof boards to the rafters. Lastly at this stage, checking the stability and concreteness of the structure is needed. The roof is very important. This is what gives the carport cover. Here, you have to fasten the rafters to the poles which have been strongly placed in the dug holes and also fastened to the lists. Everything must be strong and concrete. You should make everything strong and fastened properly.

Finalizing the job
This is the last stage and it is the most important of all. Application of caulk to the plywood, putting shingles on top of the plywood roof elements, reinforcement of the joints with metal bracing and also painting the wood. This helps to increase its useful life.
