by SpeedLux

Fiat Chrysler Vehicles NV on Monday started production of the Jeep Renegade in China. The compact SUVs are planned for China and the Asia-Pacific market.

Manufacturing of the Renegade at the GAC FCA Guangzhou plant comes 6 months after the firm began producing the Jeep Cherokee at the center.

“Today is a crucial step in our strategy to broaden the Jeep brand’s international presence and, similarly essential, it represents a further conditioning of the joint enterprise with our respected and important partner here in China, the GAC Group,” said Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne in a declaration.

China is an important part of Jeep’s international expansion through 2018. Fiat Chrysler prepares to produce 1.9 million Jeeps by 2018 at 10 plants in 6 countries: the U.S., Italy, China, Brazil, India and one other yet-to-be-announced nation. 3 years ago, just 798,000 presented of four plants in the United States.

China represents the biggest Jeep market outside the U.S.
