Sweden’s best selling car in last year was not a Volvo – this is the very first year that has taken place more than half a century.
It is Volkswagen Golf that topped sales, as per the Sweden’s carmakers association.
The Golf comprised 5.9% of new cars purchased in the nation. Volvo had a 5.7% of the sales, spread out throughout 3 models.
The last time Volvo was not in the leading spot was 1962, when a Volkswagen Beetle topped the list.
Regardless of Volvo’s car company now being owned by a Chinese company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, since 2008 it is still considered as a renowned Swedish brand.
And it still has the biggest share of the nation’s general car market, with over 1 in 5 automobiles (21.5%) on Sweden’s roadways, compared to Volkswagen’s 15.7%.
The association stated 2016 saw record car sales having 372,000 new registrations, rise of 8% on the 2015 figure, assisted by a strong economy.
