Ford has recently announced a new four-cylinder, 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine which will be available at first for the redesigned Mondeo/Fusion. The company had earlier announced that it will launch a three-cylinder power unit.
This is Ford’s fifth EcoBoost engine and the company claims that it will help to bring fuel economy gains and lower emissions. The twin-cam, aluminum block engine benefits from direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing.
The engine will be first available on China-spec Mondeo which will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2013. The Mondeo will come with 177 hp at 6,000 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque between 1,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm.
The Blue Oval company has also stated that its latest mill would provide similar horsepower and torque performance as the current 1.6-liter EcoBoost but with lower CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
The engine would be later fitted in the U.S.-bound 2014 Fusion and the Euro-spec Mondeo.
