General Motors said Monday it is increasing a production halt at its Orion Assembly plant in Michigan, which makes the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle, until the end of February.
The automaker in August widened its https://speedlux.com/general-motors-issues-new-recall-almost-69000-bolt-evs-fire-risks/recall of the Bolt to over 140,000 vehicles to replace battery modules after a series of fires. Previously this month, it extended its production shutdown through late January. The automaker has also halted retail sales of new Bolt vehicles for an indefinite period.
The suburban Detroit plant halted production in August but carried out two weeks of limited production at Orion starting November 1 to help provide courtesy transportation vehicles for consumers during recall repairs.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has a current investigation into the battery fires involving Bolt EV. NHTSA Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles had been recalled because of the risk of the high-voltage battery pack catching fire.
