If you’d ask Porsche about one model they are certainly proud of, surely they would name Porsche 911. And why not, with 911 they have been to the pinnacle to sweet sweet success. Since 1963 the Porsche 911 has been ruling the automobile market. Gradually the models have changed over time encouraging Porsche to come up with five exclusive generations of Porsche, namely 911 classic, 964 Series, 993 Series, 996 Series and 997 Series. Now Porsche is just about ready to launch the sixth generation of Porsche 911. The car is being prepared for its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011.
Despite producing a facelifted version of the 911 in recent times, Porsche have decided to come up with a new generation itself. It’s quite surprising and unconventional as well. Yet with a company of Porsche’s might and with a car as handsome as the 911, the demands change everyday. They always keep developing and improving the predecessors to create the perfect successor. With this new generation 911, what Porsche is aiming at is to improve both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the car.
The sixth generation 911, being called the 998, is being given a makeover and will look different from its previous versions. It will take a new look altogether. But still it will be recognized as a 911 model. The launch of the Porsche 998 911, will be closely followed by the launch of Turbo GT2 and GT3 models in 2012.
In the meantime, Autobuild, the car magazine from Germany, is claiming that they have information on what engine the 998 will be running on. They have revealed that the 998 model will draw its power from a slightly smaller version of the current entry level 3.6L Boxer engine. According to the magazine, the Porsche 998 911 will be based on a 3.4L Boxer engine capable of producing an output power of 345hp. Now all that matters is the price of the model. We will never doubt the excellence of Porsche 998 but we do have to consider how big a hole it leaves in your pocket after you buy it.
