Soon after Hyundai released its Genesis high-end sedan in 2004, it mentioned an objective to spin the Genesis name off as a standalone luxury brand name.
Last year it occurred. The Genesis G90 is the very first model under the new brand name and will also function as its flagship, taking on the Mercedes-Benz S-class and BMW 7-series.
While Honda, Nissan and Toyota all launched luxury brand names (Acura, Infiniti and Lexus) in the 1980s, only Lexus has had much luck outside the US. It would appear timely for the Koreans try, with Hyundai best-placed to get into this extremely competitive and image-driven sector.
A huge 12.3-inch widescreen display screen dominates the dashboard, with standard dials behind the steering wheel. So there’s no Mercedes-like full-on digital gauge-replacement going on here, but that’s not to say that the G90 remains in any method failing in high-tech toys or security functions. It’s completely loaded, then some.
In the G90 and a controlled basso rumble surrounds you as the huge automobile belts easily towards the horizon.
While sales of the $100k Hyundai Genesis sedan have actually been excellent, whether buyers will buy a $150,000-plus Genesis G90 is another concern entirely.
The reinnovated G80 is going on sale in Korea later in 2016, by 2017 it will reach the global market.
